Valerie Stacey represents clients in high-stakes commercial and tort litigation in state and federal courts across the country. She provides strategic guidance and tenacious advocacy to individuals, businesses, banks, manufacturers, and others involved in complex disputes, including multi-million and billion-dollar cases. Her practice spans industries, with particular experience in the automotive, manufacturing and financial sectors.

EXPERIENCE

Valerie handles a wide range of matters, including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, Ponzi scheme litigation, and supply chain disputes. She is skilled in all phases of litigation, including drafting and arguing motions, managing discovery, taking and defending depositions, negotiating settlements and trying cases when needed.

 She brings deep experience from the years she spent practicing with elite trial attorneys at nationally and internationally recognized and respected law firms. She served as a partner at a Detroit‑based national firm, as an associate at the Minneapolis office of a  highly‑regarded international law firm, and as an associate at one of the nation’s leading trial law firms headquartered in Minneapolis.

 

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Valerie worked as a student attorney with the Michigan Innocence Clinic helping to secure exonerations for clients who had been wrongfully convicted and imprisoned.
  • Valerie uncovered evidence that helped overturn the conviction of Ray McCann, who was later awarded $14.5 million in a civil rights suit.
  • Valerie helped secure the release of Richard Phillips, who was exonerated after 45 years of wrongful imprisonment—the longest in U.S. history.
  • Valerie also served as a judicial intern for Justice David F. Viviano of the Michigan Supreme Court.
